Our Father does not inspire us to do what cannot be done

Vocations

"My vocation is love! ... In the heart of the Church, my mother, I shall be love"

wrote St. Therese in her autobiography. From her earliest years the saint walked the way of love. It was her calling. Fired with love's urgent longings she responded to God's call with all the generosity of her young heart. The saint learnt the secret of love beneath the Cross. Her great longing was that others would be called to walk the way of love, to love as she loved, to surrender themselves to God's merciful love no matter how poor and miserable they might be.

In contemplating the face of Christ and witnessing to his love in a personal experience of deep friendship with Jesus, Carmelites fulfil the essential work of the disciple as Pope John Paul II repeatedly outlined in the teaching and example of his pontificate.
